Life as a freelancer
I decided for the next couple of weeks I want to create a series of what is life like as a graphic, designer behind-the-scenes. I feel like it’s important to document the life of a designer because I feel most people don’t understand what goes behind the scenes of being a designer, whether you’re a interior, designer, web, designer, brand designer, graphic, designer, or a creative in general there’s so much that goes behind the scenes and creating work that is beautiful, unique, and exceptional.
what I learned last month from being a freelance designer is that you have to understand the client as much as you want to be valued. running a business is already hard in general, but running a creative business that relates to other peoples businesses is even more challenging. but it’s made me realize that both of us want to be equally treated and valued as one another. As designers we sometimes feel upset because we feel that our work is undervalued, and that we are seen as the designer and not a creative expert. I can get this feeling from time to time, Especially as a young graduate. I didn’t land the best role at the best agency in the world and I had so many people tell me that I shouldn’t try to focus on freelancing because I’m so new to the industry but even though they’re probably right, something burns inside me to take control and learn, not only how to be a good designer, but also learn the business of design.
I know the thing I realize was that sometimes you have to listen to yourself, It’s important that you follow your own career path and what feels best for you because no one else will live this life except for you. The reason why I say do you are desires in every podcast that I create is for designers and creative to realize that no matter what path they choose, they have to follow the path that they feel passionate for them.
